Presentation @ Grand Hotel Stockholm
Have a look at the presentation I held at the opening day of Västerbotten @ Grand Hotel Stockholm (13 minutes – in Swedish). Some images and info about my work, 100 MIGRATORY & how it is to work world-wide as an artist from a remote mountain area of north Sweden – Tärnaby.
About My People – The Sami people
Have a look at this short info film of 3:30 minutes. It is a story about the Sami people, our history and culture – narrated in a wonderful personal way by screenwriter Åsa Simma. You can also get a glimpse from my studio and when I cut glass to pull canes – which is one part of the working process to make the 100 MIGRATORY glass vessels. Glass with blue rim is no. 66/100M but I’m not 100% sure of the other one…
The film was made as a collaboration between Umeå2014, Kreator, Lampray and Åsa Simma.
Citylife
Tomorrow I will bring vessel no. 56/100M to Stockholm for the Västerbotten County Days at Grand Hotel. On Tuesday the 24th of January I will hold a presentatíon about me and my work as well as a short introduction to the project 100 MIGRATORY. I will talk about the importance of a center, a calm secure core in each one of us and I will explain why I chose the material of glass and the form of a vessel. There are several presentations from the remote mountain area of Hemavan Tärnaby and the afternoon presentations are mainly for invited. However, the general public are very welcome (if enough space) between 1PM – 5PM.
100 MIGRATORY – the story of a hundred vessels
Finally, after 3½ years of work in my glass studio and workshop, the last of the hundred vessels are wheelcut, signed and given its own identity as number 100 of hundered. The vessels are going to be part of a glass, image and sound installation titled 100 MIGRATORY which is to be exhibited for the first time at Västerbottens Museum in Umeå January – April 2014, the year Umeå has been selected as the Cultural City of Europe.
There are lots of thoughts behind this project, so much I want to express. However, I’m not going to talk about that here and now, but I’m sure you will get more of an idea of what I’m on about if you keep reading this blog through the months and years leading up to 2014.
So the first stage of the art project 100 MIGRATORY, to actually make the vessels, is now completed. Three more stages to go before January 2014. Early this winter, soon, I will start stage two; to take my hundred vessels out into what I see is their “home” in the vast winter white mountains north of the Arctic Circle. I am very excited about this week trip into the Ultevis mountains. The serene light of the dark winter, the snow an ice crystals, the cold, tracks, aurora borealis …who knows what will happen!?
